MISSION
To advance gender equity for women and girls through education, advocacy and philanthropy

VISION

MEMBERSHIP
Goal: Retain current members and assimilate new members into the branch.

Strategies:

  1. Develop a Membership Committee
  2. Collect and report activity and interest group involvement from group chairs
  3. Support the creation of new activity/interest groups
  4. Contact inactive members
  5. Co-ordinate New Member Coffee
  6. Organize an orientation and follow-up event(s) for new members
  7. Participate in AAUW Texas Membership Zoom meetings and access resources on AAUW national and AAUW Texas websites
  8. Conduct a yearly membership survey to determine special interests, involvement and willingness to participate in branch activities and leaderships opportunities
  9. Develop and dispense a one page information flier that describes AAUW-WHC and promotes membership in branch. Updated annually

LEADERSHIP
Goal: Recruit and train branch leaders

Strategies

  1. Use activity group chairs and co-chairs to identify potential leaders in the branch
  2. Ensure all leadership roles (elected board positions, appointed board positions and
    activity group chairs) have clear job descriptions
  3. Provide training for elected board positions, appointed board positions and activity group chairs
  4. Encourage attendance at AAUW state regional and national webinars, conventions, conferences and workshops
  5. Select Nominating Committee and equip members with resources
  6. Implement a plan to participate in the 5 Star National Recognition Program

PUBLIC POLICY
Goal: Inform the membership about and encourage advocacy for current issues and legislation identified by AAUW

Strategies

  1. Develop a Public Policy Committee
  2. Educate members about AAUW Public Policy Priorities
  3. Encourage members to use national and branch websites and AAUW social media
  4. Promote advocacy for AAUW issues by encouraging use of Two-Minute Activist and personal communication with Texas and National legislators
  5. Recruit members to become Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars and to participate in collaborative initiatives with the League of Women Votes.
  6. Attend AAUW Texas Legislative Day
  7. Participate in AAUW Texas Public Policy zoom meetings and access resources on AAUW National and AAUW Texas websites

PROGRAM
Goal: Provide mission-based programs in support of life-long learning.
Strategies

  1. Develop a Program Committee
  2. Solicit program ideas from committees, interest groups, and individual members
  3. Participate in AAUW Texas Program Zoom meetings and access resources on AAUW national and AAUW Texas websites
  4. Provide programs that support AAUW mission and focus on current relevant issues
  5. Gather ideas and begin to plan for the 50th Anniversary of AAUW-WBC Branch in
    2026

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Goal: Conduct community outreach projects that promote education and economic security for women and girls

Strategies

  1. Develop a Community Outreach Committee
  2. Investigate the possibility of holding Start Smart and/or Work Smart Workshops
  3. Continue student affiliate initiatives at area universities and community colleges
  4. Encourage and support local college women to attend AAUW’s National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL)
  5. Contribute books to the free library at the Family Development Center

PHILANTHROPY
Goal: Promote and increase support for AAUW Funds and Thomsen-Baker-Telfer Scholarship

Strategies for AAUW Funds: National

  1. Develop a Funds Committee chaired by the VP and Co-VP of Funds
  2. Inform branch members of the purposes of AAUW Funds
  3. Expand member support for AAUW Funds by updating member on current national on-line donations policies and procedures
  4. Participate in AAUW Texas Funds Zoom meetings and AAUW Texas website
  5. Plan Fundraising activities and assess successful fundraising strategies of other branches and organizations
  6. Promote participation in Legacy Circle

Strategies for Thomsen-Baker-Telfer Scholarship:

  1. Maintain an active Thomsen-Baker-Telfer Scholarship Fund Board
  2. Conduct outreach to school districts to promote the scholarship
  3. Increase member participation through fundraising activities and matching grants opportunities
  4. Encourage scholarship recipients to speak and tell their story at the Spring Luncheon and promote ongoing communication with them over the year
  5. Create and maintain an investment account which will fund a portion of the yearly scholarships
